It's a holiday weekend for many of us, which is why this post is a day late. I know my writing schedule has gone completely out the window because of it.

How goes the writing? Any problems? Breakthroughs? Let us know!

This year goes surprisingly well. I'm writing my last chapter (around 5k~ left to write) and I should be finished sometime next week. I'm more or less happy with what I wrote, and I'll have time to edit and/or rewrite if I need to.

All in all, I'm good.

\o/ It's such an amazing feeling to be that close to done. You're clearly awesome.

Completely. And it's been a few years since I've written a multi-chaptered fic. And it's awesome but scary. But at least, it's gonna be over! :D

Thanks! I'm surprised by own consistency.

I missed official sign ups but am trying to still write away on my WIP. <3

That's great! If you can follow the schedule, you'll finish in no time. ^^

I'm with you on "writing schedule out the window", but I can't really blame the holiday weekend. I got a lot done during the word war this last week, so I'm pleased about that. But I also spent the week marathoning Sense8 to refresh my memory for the finale, so I've been obsessing about the wrong show. I also physically wore myself out with too much walking the last few days so I'm firmly in "don't wanna" mode about anything that doesn't involve being curled up like a lump.

Yeah -I can't stick to a schedule to save my life! But I'm really glad to hear the Word War was helpful! There will be another one kicking off later this week. :)

Ohhh, I'd forgotten about the Sense8 finale... Dang, now I'm gonna end up binge watching that, aren't I? LOL

I think you owe it to yourself to take a little break. You'll pick back up once you've refreshed physically & mentally!

Yeah, Sense8 requires a binge re-watch. There was so much I'd forgotten. A lot happened in that series.

Having been on vacation and then having a major computer crash (I was fairly well backed up - thanks, past me!), I've lost some writing time, but now I'm diving back in and making good progress with the Adding Words part of the process.

However, I'm starting to worry about the overall structure. Not in a plot sense, since I know what literally happens in each chapter, but in an emotional sense. Like, do I have my pov character thinking about the same thing too much and not emotionally progressing? Do I have not enough emotional activity for my secondary characters? (Almost certainly true, for that one.)

I think I need to step back from the words and do an outline that combines physical plot and emotional plot, and then see where I can improve that and make them fit together.

Yikes - computer crashes are no fun! Been there, done that and I'm now ultra paranoid about WIPs because I did lose a good chunk of writing during the last one. Really glad to hear you've recovered from it - and it didn't set you back too much.

And ugh... yeah, I totally understand where you're at. I'm the same way with mine. I think I've been so focused on action that I've sort of left emotional progress behind. Outlining is a great idea to bring them back in line with each other.

Good luck!!

I'm just shy of 7500 words with 9 scenes left to go. And I have an outline (of sorts). So feeling pretty good about it.

Binge watching Supernatural is not helping with the words, but it is fun!

Nice!! Sounds like you're on a great path to finishing up! Heh... binge watching things is one of the many things that seems to steal my writing time, so I understand completely!

To be perfectly honest, I'm considering dropping out. I'm just not getting anything written on this. I try. I have ideas. It is just not wanting to be written. I'm not going to make the June percentage done deadline.
Now, admittedly, this is really nothing new for me. I'm a last minute writer. I was in university. I have been with other big bangs. Nearly every time, I do succeed, and I do beautifully.
So maybe I'm panicking for no reason, and I will follow my usual pattern.
Shuufleur[personal profile] shuufleur93 on May 28th, 2018 05:03 pm (UTC)
Maybe you could try to write a little every day? Basically, that's what I do, but I'm not doing it alone. There's someone I can ask to do word wars with me, even when I end up only writing a hundred words. You could try with someone?

In any case, you can do it. ;)
touchofstrange: Merthur[personal profile] touchofstrange on May 28th, 2018 05:16 pm (UTC)
I am the very same way! An absolute last-minute, down-to-the-wire, cram 20k in 2-days kind of writer.

Which, actually kinda works for me? I mean, I try to get ahead of the game. Every time. I plan and strategize and set aside writing time and... I'm still scrambling at the end to get done.

So, I have confidence that you can do it!!

I'm doing okay but gosh I'm tired of writing the same story for so long. I think after this I might just stick to short drabbles lol.
touchofstrange: Merthur[personal profile] touchofstrange on May 28th, 2018 05:29 pm (UTC)
Glad you're doing okay!! And, LOL! Sticking to a longer fic can definitely be tough. It just gets so samey and starts to feel boring after a while. Drabbles sound nice and easy and refreshing!

Well it’s not Saturday anymore, but I feel like a glass of something is deserved.

I’ve written 1000 words today. Re-writing the very beginning of my story. Which also meant resetting it in time after another canon instalment that came out after I started working on this story 3 years ago, but that still kinda works for me.

And I like those new words. I’m completely behind on everything, barely made it with the snippets, failed with the words war, but it’s the first real breakthrough I’ve had on this story in like 2 years. It gives me hope. I enjoyed those new words. I’m not sure how well it will go with re-using the old words though. I don’t like them anymore. Yeah, I don’t know... but today — there is hope.

Also 2 artists named my story as their 3rd choice. And although it’s still unclaimed, somebody actually considered it!! *happy*
